John
A retired police officer, John served 30 years with Strathclyde Police. Since 1998 he has recounted his experiences as notable after dinner speaker, renowned for his humorous tales and one liner’s.
John has led an all-round healthy life with his former career keeping his body active and his mind sharp. He credits his after dinner speaking with continuing to stimulate him mentally but felt that he needed more structure in physical activity.
John began to feel his body slow and muscles and joints stiffen, he noticed that he wasn’t as supple as he had once been. This is what brought him to join the MorphFit Gentle Movement Project.
He attends a fully funded onsite circuit session each week, this more advanced session encourages participants to use equipment such as an exercise bike, cable machine and dumbbells. John noted that the group had progressed and grown in confidence so much over the course of the block that they were able to increase the duration of time at each circuit station from 45 seconds to 1 minute, an incredible achievement!
“The MorphFit Gentle Movement Project gives me focused exercise plans, a level of commitment and structure”
In addition to the physical and mental stimulation, John also enjoys the comradery that comes with the group sessions. It has given him an opportunity to meet and ‘banter’ with many new people. He likes the encouraging atmosphere he and his fellow participants have built and enjoys seeing how others grow and develop across the programme.
John really appreciates Instructor, Nicola and how she coordinates the sessions with a genuine passion for exercise and care for those who attend. He feels that she makes the sessions fun and inclusive and has the ability to motivate participants without pushing them beyond what is safe and comfortable. He enjoys the circuits that Nicola prepares and utilising the various pieces of equipment.
“Nicola is a God send, she has a lovely way, this definitely attracts people to the classes”.
Johns’ gentle movement journey has helped him keep up with his adored Grandsons Noah and Theo and encouraged him to cycle and walk regularly with friends.
