Harry

Harry has suffered back pain throughout his life, stemming from a terrifying fall downstairs, whilst holding his baby son, now an adult. This pain has worsened significantly over time. X-rays have identified arthritis in Harry’s spine, and he has been referred to the Movement Disorder Clinic, where his current symptoms point towards a diagnosis of Parkinsons Disease.

Harry came to know about the MorphFit Gentle Movement Project in September 2023 following an appointment with his NHS Physiotherapist. Initially Harry was apprehensive about attending, wondering what the facility would be like, who would be there and what type of clothing would be best.

Upon arriving Harry’s concerns were quickly batted away when he was greeted by the friendly and welcoming team and service users. He describes ‘feeling at home’ at MorphFit and a real part of something.

Through attending the gentle movement sessions Harry’s confidence has increased and he has developed a greater sense of community and friendship. The sessions give him a real purpose and a reason to get out and get moving again. He enjoys sharing his favourite workout music with the group, most notably disco dancing to the Bee Gees!

Since taking part Harry’s symptoms have not worsened, he aims to continue his weekly session and hopes to get back to his more physical hobby of gardening in time. The sessions are adjusted in line with Harrys need and he enjoys going at his own pace. Had he not enrolled in MorphFit, Harry feels that he wouldn’t be taking part in such regular exercise or socialising quite as much.

“I’m so grateful MorphFit was recommended by my Physiotherapist, I really enjoy going”.
